QB Timer Pro was a standalone time-tracking tool included with older QuickBooks Pro and Premier editions—though it needed manual installation from the CD or download. It allowed employees or contractors (especially offsite or without access to QuickBooks company files) to log hours independently. Users exported lists (employees, customers, jobs, service items) from QuickBooks into QB Timer via IIF files, entered time, then exported time back in IIF format for re-import into QuickBooks.
The product was discontinued by QuickBooks in 2006, leaving users scrambling to find a viable replacement. Unfortunately, to the best of our knowledge, no cost-effective alternatives were available. While a few software products offered similar features, they were typically bundled with a wide range of additional functions far beyond the scope of a simple timer, resulting in increased cost and complexity.
We developed this product in July 2025 after speaking with a colleague who was still using the outdated 2006 version and had to manually modify IIF files to make the software compatible with his current version of QuickBooks.
The goal was to recreate the software with slight improvements, preserving the simplicity of its original purpose while ensuring compatibility with current versions of QuickBooks.
When imported exported activities into QuickBooks Desktop via "File", "Utilities", "Import", "Import IIF Files", if activities have been assigned to vendors, you will need to use "Import without review (not recommended)" - Import it for me. I'll fix later". This is due to QuickBooks and there isn't anything we can do about it. The activities should import fine. When only importing activities for employees "Import IIF" should work without error.
The July, 4 2025 version 1.x release is now available for BETA testing. It may require some updates, so please report any issues to us via our Contact Page. This will help us make any necessary adjustments.

As a precaution, although we don't anticipate any issues, since this is a BETA test version, be sure to backup your QuickBooks data before trying to import the IIF exported from our app initially. We take zero responsibily for any issues with your QuickBooks data.
