Problem

After upgrading from a DeskLot version older than 4.0 to a version 4.0 or higher you get an error such as: DeskLot Error at Location 102 . Error Code 76 - Path not found

Solution

If after upgrading from a DeskLot version of 3.8.x or below to 4.0 or above (see knowledge base article http://www.desklot.com/Support/Article.asp?ArticleID=33), you get path not found errors such as:

DeskLot Error at . Error Code 76 - Path not found: 'C:\Program Files\WalkTheLot DeskLot\Sample_Images\Sticker_Templates\Seal4_Stickers\701\sticker_frame1_red.gif'

..or other problems such as vehicle images not being found. This article applies to your installation.

The Explaination:

With previous DeskLot version, the complete program, which includes the files that are the actual program, sample images, user data such as databases and vehicle photos, and all sample files... basically everything, are stored in the folder you installed DeskLot into, which is normally C:\Program Files\WalkTheLot DeskLot\ and the various folders beneath that.

With the new DeskLot 4.0 version, only the actual executable programs (DeskLot.exe, StickerC.exe, Reseller.exe and DBPathConv.exe), the VinPower files (vp_lib.dll, VP_BASIC.BIN, VP_MOTOR.BIN, VP_TRAIL.BIN, VP_TRUCK.BIN, VPSYSTEM.BIN and VPX_WMI.BIN) and the files in the Help folder are stored in this folder...

...All other files such as sample files, graphics used by the sticker templates, other decoding databases, system and user databases (all MDB files (Microsoft Access Application)), all files in the ASP, HTML, Chrome, Chrome Exploder, Sample_Images, Sticker_Thumbs, Temp, and UserImages folders are stored in a different "User Data and Databases" folder.

Jump to Your Senario:

Senario 1: If you are installing DeskLot onto a computer that NEVER had DeskLot installed on it and yet are restoring data from a backup of a previous installation.

Senario 2: You have upgraded to 4.0 or above on a computer that already had DeskLot installed on it. You backed up your data, uninstalled the old version of DeskLot via Add/Remove Programs, and you downloaded the new installation of 4.0 and installed it. See: http://www.desklot.com/Support/Article.asp?ArticleID=33.

Senario 1:

If you are installing DeskLot onto a computer that NEVER had DeskLot installed on it and yet are restoring data from a backup of a previous installation:

The installation program will install the files as mentioned above. Meaning: The program files in the C:\Program Files\WalkTheLot DeskLot\ folder, and all other files in one of the following folders depending on what operating system you are using:

For Windows XP, 98SE and 2000. The installation program will install the files to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\WalkTheLot DeskLot\

For Windows Vista. The installation program will install the files to C:\ProgramData\WalkTheLot DeskLot\

Once installation is complete, DeskLot will store the "User Data and Databases" folder path in your system registry (see above as to what path it will store).

BUT, when you restore your data (for example place the MDB database files and UserImages folder and it's contents back where it was (C:\Program Files\WalkTheLot DeskLot\, DeskLot will not be looking in this location for those files... because it has stored in the Windows Registry the NEW location for data as mentioned above.

What you need to do is rather than restoring your data to C:\Program Files\WalkTheLot DeskLot\, you restore your data to the "User Data and Databases" folder that is defined in the system settings (mentioned below) as mention above per your Window Operating System version.

To find out what path is stored as your "User Data and Databases" folder, from the "Select an Account" opening DeskLot screen, or from your vehicle list screen, click "File" and then "Settings". Then click the "Networking" tab and see what the path is to your "User Data and Databases" folder.

You will want to restore your data to this NEW location.

NOW, the data is where it needs to be, HOWEVER, various fields in your databases still point to the old location. Therefore, we have included a utility in DeskLot 4.0 to convert the paths your various database fields point to. In your C:\Program Files\WalkTheLot DeskLot\ folder find the file DBPathConv.exe and run it. Further instructions are listed within that program.

To recap in short:

1) Restore your data to either (if not sure click File, Settings and then Networking tab in DeskLot to find the path to your User Data and Databases folder):

For Windows XP, 98SE and 2000. The installation program will install the files to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\WalkTheLot DeskLot\

For Windows Vista. The installation program will install the files to C:\ProgramData\WalkTheLot DeskLot\

2) After the files have been restored to the proper NEW location, run DBPathConv.exe which is located in your C:\Program Files\WalkTheLot DeskLot\ folder.

3) Test things.

Senario 2:

You have upgraded to 4.0 or above on a computer that already had DeskLot installed on it. You backed up your data, uninstalled the old version of DeskLot via Add/Remove Programs, and you downloaded the new installation of 4.0 and installed it. See: http://www.desklot.com/Support/Article.asp?ArticleID=33.

Your system registry STILL has your settings stored because you have already been running DeskLot on this computer prior to upgrading to 4.0.

Most importantly, DeskLot still remembers that your "User Data and Databases" folder is the old-school way, which is C:\Program Files\WalkTheLot DeskLot\. Meaning. All user data, databases, and the actual program itself are stored in the same location. THIS IS FINE. You can leave things like this.

1st, please verify that your User Data and Databases folder is in fact "C:\Program Files\WalkTheLot DeskLot\" by clicking "File" and then "Settings" from either the Select an Account opening screen or from the vehicle list screen. Then click the "Networking" tab and make a note of what the "User Data and Databases" folder is.

This is where users have been running into problems:

When you UNINSTALL the old version of DeskLot, it removes files in the Sample_Images folder. Since some of the sticker templates you use point to files in this folder, you may get the "Path not found" errors. You get this because the uninstall removed them from "C:\Program Files\WalkTheLot DeskLot\" and the install of the new version placed them in either:

For Windows XP, 98SE and 2000. The installation program will install the files to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\WalkTheLot DeskLot\
For Windows Vista. The installation program will install the files to C:\ProgramData\WalkTheLot DeskLot\

All that you need to do is copy the files from the folder mentioned above per your Windows operating system to the previous location "C:\Program Files\WalkTheLot DeskLot\Sample_Images\" and all should work fine.

If you run into further problems, contact support and we will be glad to assist you and make sure you get back up and operational quickly.
